Is your dog an adult or a puppy? If your dog isn't fully grown, the main factor to take into account is the size of the dog when it is. Simply measure your dog's height from the bottom of its shoulder if it is fully grown. This height need to be similar to the height of the dog house's door. Ensure that the dog won't have to stoop or crawl into the home, simply slightly duck its head. The dog may find it difficult to enter and exit the dog house due to sore joints, arthritis, or old age.
Next, take into account the adult dog's overall size, approximate adult weight for the breed, and chest breadth (or have your dog's chest measured). Compare it to the size of the house's door. The dog's sides shouldn't be scraped by the entryway.
Lastly, think about the dog's length when it is lying down. This is crucial for the dog's comfort within the home. In the house, it need to be able to stand up and turn around. The dog will have to curl up if the dog house is too short so that it won't stick out during inclement weather.
This is crucial in hot weather because dogs don't just pant when they sweat; they also need to be able to cool themselves. Measure your adult dog's length from snout to tail while he is lying down. He should be able to fully extend his legs, and this measurement should be in line with the size of the dog house.
